Record high in recruitment reached

Turnover in the UK recruitment industry has reached an all-time high according to an annual industry report published in association with Ernst and Young. Overall turnover in both the permanent and temporary recruitment industries has increased by 5.8 per cent to £24.838 billion in 2005/06, from the last industry high in 2000/2001, and reflects a strong growth in the UK economy.

New minimum wage implemented

October 2006 saw the introduction of a new minimum wage scale. It applies to nearly all workers and sets hourly rates below which pay must not be allowed to fall. The DTI points out that “it helps business by ensuring companies will be able to compete on the basis of quality of the goods and services they provide and not on low prices based predominantly on low rates of pay”.
